Six Small Swaps Toward a Plastic-Free Bathroom

Most bathrooms don't need a total overhaul to cut plastic waste — a handful of small, permanent swaps do most of the work. None of these require giving anything up; they just change what the product is packaged or made from.
1. Choose paper-wrapped tissue over plastic film
The plastic wrap around a box of tissues or a pack of rolls is single-use and rarely recyclable. Paper-wrapped alternatives, sealed with a compostable adhesive, do the same job and go straight into your paper recycling.
2. Check the core, not just the sheet
Toilet and kitchen roll cores are usually recycled paperboard already — but some cheaper rolls use a plastic-coated core for rigidity. It's a small thing, but it's one more thing that won't ever break down.
3. Refill instead of rebuy your dispenser
A reusable tissue box cover or napkin holder means only the paper inside gets replaced, not the container.
4. Look for FSC certification
It doesn't reduce plastic directly, but it confirms the fibre itself came from a responsibly managed forest — worth checking alongside the packaging.
5. Buy in bulk packs, not individually wrapped units
Individually wrapped travel packs are convenient but multiply packaging per sheet. A single resealable bulk pack cuts that down significantly.
6. Recycle the paper wrap itself
Plastic-free doesn't mean waste-free — even paper wrap should go in your recycling bin, not the general bin, once it's off the pack.
